Why not. If the company and job is a good fit for you. OTR companies might not give credit for that kind of experience.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
That was kinda my thought on it also. I actually know a person who owns a truck and hopper bottom trailer that is sometimes looking for drivers I'm not sure if he is currently or not but he's told me before he'd be more then happy to hire me when he has an opening
How would he pay you, 1099 or W2? What about benefits? Workmans comp? Sometimes those are not the best deals.
I believe it's w2 and he uses our state job agencies to look for people but I've never discussed all the details with him
I don't believe a hopper bottom tanker, because they carry dry goods, would be as perilous as a liquid tanker. I'd say go for it if you think the company offers what you need and is a good fit.
Sorry I meant to say trailer not tanker
Like the others have said, if you feel it is a good fit for you and your situation and it is a w2 job then sure.. I see no reason I can think of to not give it a try.
Can someone explain the difference briefly in a w2 job and 1099 ? I know w2 is like a company employee is a 1099 a contractor or something ?

Yes you are exactly right. A w2 is a company driver and the company will be deducting the taxes from your paycheck and sending them in for you. A 1099 is a contractor and you will be responsible for paying your own taxes and will be responsible for a lot of other costs more than likely such as leasing equipment and providing your own health insurance... Things like that..
