So today at swift driving academy. I passed my road test today. And I wasn’t even expecting to take it today ! I am so happy. I paid my fees at the dmv now to take big daddy test next Tuesday !!!!!!! Almost a class a CDL holder !!!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

DMV:

Department of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Motor Vehicles

The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

Awesome...they are "sneaky" like that. Passed you on what you "thought" was a practice run. Suggestion...get as many practice drives as you can now. You bought yourself extra practice, well done.

Congratulations!

Yes...3 of them were named James. Old James, Ponytail Younger James and Black James.

Glad it worked out for you.

I think Ponytail James went back out OTR. He was a screamer, fortunately not with me. Former SEAL, tough SOB, but fair.

I had James take me out once, was my second time road driving. He helped me,...quickly broke a bad-habit of holding onto the gearshift too much and too long...I think you can likely guess how he embarrassed me away from that habit. Nuff said...

It's interesting what bada**es they are the first and second week, by the third when they have separated the chaff, they are much more helpful and patient.

Most of my road training and shifting practice was with Old James. Not sure if he is still there. He is the instructor that would use phrases like:

Watch your wagon driver, watch your wagon (my favorite and one frequently referenced in the forum)

You're at war with the Truck

The Truck always wins

and

Work the truck, work it.

Good times. Vince and Steve, are they still there?

Anyway,...best of luck with the CDL tests.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
