So i parked on the side of the road bobtail to retrieve info. Driver's side tires on pavement passenger side on gravel and dirt. The truck started sinking and i started to get stuck but i was able to get out. I sunk maybe 6 or 8 inches pretty deep. Any way someone took pictures and my company called about it we talked it out but no one told me it was a preventable. I had to find out by mail. I dont feel like its a preventable. By looking at the side of the road you can see that trucks stop there all the time because the grass isn't growing.

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

Did you inform your driver manager once you got yourself "unstuck"?

It's definitely a preventable (albeit minor) and has nothing todo with what other drivers did parking there before you.

Trucks are heavy, even a bobtailed tractor weighs enough to make a mess of soft ground.

Call your driver manager and talk it through; gain some understanding, offer a huge/humble apology and discuss ways of preventing it in the future. You made a mistake, try to learn from it.

Driver Manager:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Preventable what? incident or accident? there is a difference and many companies will differeniate.

Accident is DOT recordable by FAT...Fatality, Ambulance (injury) or Tow.

if you werent towed and did not hurt or kill anyone, and there is no excessive damage to the truck....did they declare it an "incident"? although it is still bad, it might not carry the severity of an accident.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Seems like a bunch of b.s. to me. No, parking on the side of the road isn't smart, but if no equipment or property damage occurred, then wtf-2.gif

I gotta agree that’s being petty. If all it caused was a couple ruts I can’t see any static over it. We occassionally get stuck at customers, no big deal

I agree as well, based on what we know here, but it sounds like maybe a property owner called and complained about damage to their "lawn" or something, because if not there just couldn't be an issue. So.....if we chew up someone's lawn while spinning tires getting unstuck, and the property owner complains and sends photos to the offender's company, well, we are going to get dinged for it. Like G-Town indicated, we need to own up and promise not to have this problem again.

I owned up but it says preventable accident. No tow, no damage to truck just some rutts^^. And they have other marks like this along their property. I had to pass them twice within the last 24 hours to drop off and pick up. Even the asphalt at the intersection has rutts in it. Apparently the road is just as weak at some points.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
