Rick makes a good point about self employed persons. I was on the payroll of my own privately held corporation for decades. Most trucking companies wouldn't accept my W-2's. I had to produce ten years of income tax records back then for anyone to even consider me.

I'm new here and not sure if I should reply to this thread or start a new one. First, I'd like to sincerely thank you seasoned trucking veterans for your hard truths.

I have a similar problem. One thing I need clarification on is "having a work history." I have an over 30-year continuous work history, but very little paid in the last 4 years due to picking up a couple of misdemeanors in 2016. Now, I can't even get an interview. So I enrolled in and completed two programs that will eventually pay off (hopefully as a "side-hustle" now), but I need seed money. I've never been more fully dedicated and "employed" in my life than the last 4 years... just not for a paycheck (my wife is a Respiratory Therapist and we have always gotten by). But, I CAN'T not work!

Being a trucker (like many lads) has been a dream of mine since I was a boy. I didn't get into it previously due to raising a family and wanting to help children in public service.

I am a first-time offender and not a felon, but I made a mistake that has become a death sentence vocationally. I'm really hoping one of the OTR schools will consider 30 years of work history more emblematic of my character than one night in my life for which I am truly ashamed.

Any help/advice is humbly and sincerely appreciated.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

It depends on the offense and when the completion of your court ordered sentence was.

Howdy, Rich . . . and welcome to Trucking Truth! PackRat is correct; we kinda need more info to be of more help, but if you don't care to share, that's fine; navigate our great stuff!

It wouldn't hurt to start a new thread, but then again ... you're fine right here, where you posted.

Your venture/journey may be a 'bit' more difficult with those 2016 incidents, but not necessarily a 'career killer.' DUI , however .... may be different.

Have you seen these links? If not, read on:

And then, there's this:

And, for your convenience; our packet where you can spend ONE minute, and apply to numerous companies, right here, all at once~!!

Additionally, the 4 years of 'non employment' here's a few things that might help:

1.) Did you draw unemployment? Worker's Comp? SSI? Documents.

2.) Did you take and/or enroll in any 'betterment' classes? Documents.

3.) Did you care for (or help care for?) a sick relative or similar? Notarized statements.

4.) Did you mow lawns / plow snow? Notarized letters from clients, or 1099 if filed.

All I've got for you now, good sir! Hopefully the veterans and mods will chime in with more, soon! They're mostly a 'morning' bunch around here; I'm the night owl due to my husband's driving schedule, LoL~!!

Best to you, as you peruse the industry; NO question is too trivial. This site is a treasure trove, so put your pirate's hook on, and delve in!
