Well, yesterday I took a big step...I applied online for the Roehl CDL School!! I know there are a lot more steps but that was a big one for me. It may still be a little while before I can go but I will at least be in contact with a recruiter and can get some initial things done. This will also give me time to go through the High Road training, study my flash cards for the PTI until I get it down pat, etc.

I enjoy so much reading everyone’s stories, advice, antidotes, on this site. Thank you so much for being here for those of us with this dream.

I’m excited!!! And terrified!!! shocked.png

  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.

I start July 9th in Appleton. I am finishing the high road along with watching the pretrip videos at least twice a day. I can’t wait.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Thanks guys. Old School, I will definitely be asking a lot of questions. Andrew, good luck! In a way I wish I was starting soon but I know I have a lot to get done before I can.

I considered Roehl but they have a 15 month commitment. I have chosen Schneider because they have a 6 month contract and I will train and drive an automatic transmission! It's also salaried at $850/month for the first 3 months and .41 cents per mile after that or I stay salaried.

Keep us posted on how Roehl works for you.
