Congratulations Brent!
I am curious, What was your motivation for taking an eight week course at a local truck driving academy? There's no wrong answer, and it may help others if you could share it with us. I went to a private school myself, but after years of being in the business, I am now quite favorable toward the Paid CDL Training Programs.
Best of luck to you as you pursue this career! If you work your way through our High Road CDL Training Program, you will find yourself as the star student in the class. To be honest with you it is going to make that first two weeks of class an absolute waste of time - you will be that much farther ahead of everybody else!

I cannot stress enough; you should definitely utilize the High Road CDL Training Program. It really prepares you for the CDL testing. Also, Texas, has an additional CDL manual chapter it throws at you. Search this site for "Texas" and you will find what you need.

Thanks Old School, I Talked to several people who have gone there and nothing but good reviews about how the instructors are, how the school is run, the fact they are in-house testing site, several companies here recruit students from the class, I appreciate your advice and enjoy reading your articles.
Thanks

Took the plunge today and paid my tuition for an 8 week academy here in my hometown of Amarillo Texas today. 47 years old and my 3rd and final career, after research I felt this was the best fit for me, they told me the first 2 weeks is preparing for the tests at the DPS office and when we take the driving test it will be on campus that they are an approved testing site with the state. I start October 22 and will keep a diary, I have found many of them on here helpful as well as the tons of information on this site, I will also prepare on this site with the CDL training Manuel before school starts.
