First put a ring on her finger. Second, did you go through company sponsored training or a private school? A private school should offer job placement. Most local companies require at least one year OTR. You will have to leave no stone unturned. Like I said first, get down to the court house and get married. That way when you have a job, you can put her and the kids on your insurance. Yes, I'm an old fart with old fashioned ideas that it goes, date, marriage, children.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.
The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.
If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.
Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.

There is a reason most companies require experience for local jobs. As a rule they are far more difficult from a skills perspective; numerous tight backing situations, narrow intersections, and close quarter maneuvering are typical of local work.
Point being, the reality of an entry level driver’s ability is not usually up for these challenges. If at all possible get your OTR experience first. Then look for a local gig.

Hi! i just got my cdl through a company in knoxville but it has an automatic only restriction. I was wondering about the best companies for drivers with no experience where i can go home every night or be home one night out two or something like that. I have a toddler and a newborn so while i’ve been on the road my girlfriend is losing her mind from not sleeping so i was wanting to help her a lil bit at night for obvious reasons. I’m 25 with no past legal issues/tickets/wrecks on my record.
Thanks!
