Hello everyone.... got some good news that I will be starting classes at American Driver Training Academy on Nov. 5th. Can not wait to actually get started on my new career and just want to say again Thanks to everyone out there providing advice and encouragement to all of us new people. I actually received a call from a company offering me a spot and route when I graduate.
Good luck
Thank you you too
There ya go. Get out there, learn your stuff and laugh at yourself and your fellow classmates too.. all good naturedly.
Best of luck in your adventures.
Thank you all for the encouragement and well wishes. Probably a dumb question and since looking around on the site has me wondering.... I got a call from US Xpress the other day and the person said that they had already ran my MVR , Criminal history, and Employment history (actually sent me copies of the report) and that they were interested in offering me a spot when I get out of my CDL class. They even discussed Regional lines and told me I could choose which one I wanted to do. Now my question is I did not get a "pre-hire letter" yet, the lady told me to call back during my first week of class to finalize things...... Just wondering if I have a job or not yet.... Like I said dumb question, anyone that might want to chime in with info on the company or your thoughts I would appreciate any info you could give me.... You all on here Rock and are Awesome
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
An MVR is a report of your driving history, as reported from your state Department of Motor Vehicles. Information on this report may include Drivers License information, point history, violations, convictions, and license status on your driving record.
Pre-hire letters are acceptance letters from trucking companies to students, or even potential students, to verify placement. The trucking companies are saying in writing that the student, or potential student, appears to meet the company's minimum hiring requirements and is welcome to attend their orientation at the company’s expense once he or she graduates from truck driving school and has their CDL in hand.
We have an excellent article that will help you Understand The Pre-Hire Process.
The people that receive a pre-hire letter are people who meet the company's minimum hiring requirements, but it is not an employment contract. It is an invitation to orientation, and the orientation itself is a prerequisite to employment.
During the orientation you will get a physical, drug screen, and background check done. These and other qualifications must be met before someone in orientation is officially hired.
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
