Yeah, not a rule, but a recommendation.
If a cop wakes me for an inspection while I'm sleeping in a truck stop, I OK. I go on duty, DOT inspection (have that option in my PeopleNet) and wait. When he done, I would send a message to dispatch that "I got woke for a DOT inspection, it took _____ hours. I'm going back to bed. I new ETA is _____. Thank you. Good night."

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
The good thing is, this now seems to define best practice, so overall it's a good thing. Now we'll see if it really happens.
