I just got my clp. I’m looking for training but I have a dui about 4 years ago. 3 years in February for the suspension being lifted. Does anyone know where I can get a job?

DUI:

Driving Under the Influence

CLP:

Commercial Learner's Permit

Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.

On this forum at the top left corner there are 3 horizontal bars. Click on them and it will bring up a menu, scroll down until you see company reviews. Check out all the companies that Brett researched and it will give you a list of what each company will hire for and not hire for. I'll see if I can quote from one of the companies.

This is just part of the truck review for Western Express:

Western Express Minimum Hiring Qualifications Must be at least 22 years of age Must possess a Class-A CDL Must have 3 months of OTR driving experience Acceptable MVR Must pass a DOT drug test Must have a current (or be able to pass) DOT physical No prior drug and alcohol positives ever To Start As An Experienced Driver: Must have 3 months verifiable OTR experience

Under 3 months will train with our professional certified driver trainers

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

MVR:

Motor Vehicle Record

An MVR is a report of your driving history, as reported from your state Department of Motor Vehicles. Information on this report may include Drivers License information, point history, violations, convictions, and license status on your driving record.

Hello Brian, and welcome aboard!

Here's a link to some information that will help. Most companies are going to want five years from your DUI. Hopefully you'll be able to find someone who will work with you.

Companies Who Will Hire With DUI's.

I also recommend contacting CFI, Paschall (PTL), and TransAm. They may give you a shot. If you are fortunate enough to land a job in trucking, hang in there for one full year at your first employer. That will completely change how the others view your past transgressions.
