So I just passed my CDL permit test today! The last step in getting scheduled for CDL school with swift. Just need to hear word which class I will be in from my recruiter. Hopefully Feb 4 in Memphis. So excited. Just one more step of many in getting my new career started!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Thanks everyone! I'm really excited for this new venture and can't wait. Of course there are some nerves with anything new and leaving my job, but my wife is very supportive and that helps. The only issue is that when it finally does come time for me to test for the CDL are the auto fails that could happen. I don't want to screw up and get sent home. BUT one step at a time :-)

The CDL driving test is not do or die. You'll get another chance if you mess up. Some of us tested three or four times. You get the same CDL on your third time as the guy who passes it the first time. It's what takes place over that next year that will separate those who accomplish something from those who don't.

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
