I never got my hazmat endorsement. I told my fleet manager one day that I'd be happy to get it if he wanted me to. He said not to bother, its just a waste of money and time for Prime flatbed.

But it certainly won't hurt to get it.

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

Fleet Manager:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Oh, I was of the understanding that prime required Hazmat and tanker endorsement

Tanker yes, hazmat, no.

I think it is written in the literature somewhere that they want hazmat. But no it isn't required.

To be clear though, I'm not saying you shouldn't get it. It'll make you more marketable should you choose to go to the reefer side. Me, I knew I'd be in flatbed for at least a couple years. So if/when I decide to leave flatbed I'll simply go home and get the endorsement then.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

In Kentucky,to get hazmat , you have to go to a certain website and schedule your fingerprinting.. not very many locations can do it. You bring all your ID, birth certificate, SS card and they process your application for the tsa background check. It was like $120 for fingerprinting l. Then you wait to receive a letter in the mail authorizing you to take the hazmat written test, then they add it to your license once you've passed the test. It took a couple weeks to get the letter.
