I stopped in at Denny’s at the Flying J in Smithton PA. Ordered eggs and French toast. Cook must have nuked the French toast too long, as you literally couldn’t cut it with a knife.

On the way back to Roadys next door where I was parked, I found this. I apologize for the quality. It had just started snowing heavily

Interesting, but I can't read it on my phone. I used to live in Menifee, and right up on the hill next to us, which used to be part of Audie Murphy's Ranch oh, there was a Pioneer grave site within an HOA community. It was very interesting, and even had wooden headstones.

Not sure who/what the marker is for, but searching google earth and going into street view there. You can see a lone headstone inside that square wrought iron fence. I tried searching for info on the marker between the Flying J and the Smithton truck stop but I have been defeated.

I wish I had taken the picture on the way there. I thought I would wait for more light. Then it started snowing.

I was afraid to get closer, thought someone might have me arrested.

I’m pretty sure it says Cornelius Casale. Died April 1918

Interestingly enough, there are a lot of these around Virginia Beach, too. Have been all over the area and sometimes you can happen upon small grave markers in odd places. I am from the mountains of VA, and there are small family plots scattered about in that part of the state, also. I found a marker one time that was for the grave of a USN Captain during the War of 1812 era. Did a bunch of hours in research on him. Was very slow, but worth my effort to investigate the past.

Hey PackRat, that's where I grew up. I miss the mountains! What part of Virginia are you from? Botetourt County here.

Apologies for the threadjack, Grumpy.

Got family in Rockbridge, on my paternal grandmother's side. Both of her brothers were in the timber business there for many years. We used to have our family reunion at the old Palmer schoolhouse every summer. Beautiful country up there.
