We had a 6 am appointment with McClane cold storage in Rancho Cucamonga. These guys are really good. We stayed outside there palace from 0100 to 0500 when they opened. Went in by 0515 everything was done paperwork signed and completed by 0630. If anyone has to go to JBS meats in Tolleson get ready for a long, long time to get loaded.

Anyway McClane was the fastest I have encountered since my mentoring stage started.

So again, cudos to McClane Cold Storage.

Your JBS experience was a fluke. Usually it's drop and hook and usually they are spot on with weight.

McClane is a good warehouse. I've been to several and I'm usually out within two hours.

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

Don't gloat too much it might bite you in the a**!

Yes Big T, our load originally was supposed to be a drop and hook but when we got there it wasn't ready.

Anyway, it was a good experience for me to see efficiency in action.

In my brief OTR stent, I had one place from check in until they off loaded a full trailer was less than 30 minutes. It was nice to see 2 forklifts flying in and out, when they got farther up one guy pulled the pallets out and the other came and took them. I wish more places where like that.

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

I wish more were like that also. But hey, we can't have our cake and eat it too. Or can we? Time will tell.
