I joined this forum about an hour ago. I clicked on the big green "Apply For CDL Training" button and two minutes later, no exaggeration, two minutes later a recruiter called me. She sent me their application online and that's done now too. Seriously, within 30 minutes of joining this forum I'm sponsored for CDL training.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

That's awesome! What company if you don't mind me asking? Other companies will be reaching out as well so don't be in too much of a hurry. You'll want to stay with that first company for atleast a year so just be sure they're hometime, pet policy and rider policy to mention a few are things your ok with. When are you looking at getting started?

Veriha is the company. I'm looking to get started as soon as possible. I need to have the CLP before I can attend the training program so I'm going to study for a couple of weeks, get the CLP, and then I can start with their next class.

CLP:

Commercial Learner's Permit

Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.

Good luck, Hobo! You have access to the best study guide and most knowledgeable group of drivers online. Don't hesitate to use those resources.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Hey Hobo, I can't tell by your comments, but you'll have the easiest of times preparing for the CLP by using our High Road CDL Training Program.

You weren't kidding about hearing from other companies. So far I've heard from 11 companies and spoken on the phone with 6 recruiters. I decided to go with PAM Transport and I'm scheduled to start their school on March 5th.

There are a few diaries from students at PAM. I would definitely read them. I can't for the life of me remember who they were but I think you can search for them. Best of luck. My son, just got picked up by his trainer last night. He is with WIL-TRANS....so happy for him.

Chris

Wil-Trans:

Darrel Wilson bought his first tractor in 1980 at age 20, but, being too young to meet OTR age requirements, he leased the truck out and hired a driver.

Through growth and acquisition, Wil-Trans now employs over 200 drivers, and has a long-standing partnership with Prime, Inc. to haul their refrigerated freight. The family of businesses also includes Jim Palmer Trucking and O & S Trucking.
