Just got my truck out of the shop at our terminal yesterday for some PMs and APU repair.

Took one load down to GA after getting out of shop.

When I opened up my hood for my inspection after my delivery I was greeted by this.

Been sitting here for 5 hours waiting on road assist to find a mobile repair tech willing to come do the repair. But that's sure better than it breaking going down the interstate and leaving me stranded on the side of the road.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

APU:

Auxiliary Power Unit

On tractor trailers, and APU is a small diesel engine that powers a heat and air conditioning unit while charging the truck's main batteries at the same time. This allows the driver to remain comfortable in the cab and have access to electric power without running the main truck engine.

Having an APU helps save money in fuel costs and saves wear and tear on the main engine, though they tend to be expensive to install and maintain. Therefore only a very small percentage of the trucks on the road today come equipped with an APU.

Unless you are on the road. Then it is a little better than none. :)

Whenever I break down on the road the first thing I do is check the Tracker App on here. I always check to see if PackRat is nearby. I don't even bother with calling breakdown first, because I know if PackRat is nearby he will have something on his truck that will help me get going again. smile.gif
