I just finished A seat orientation for Prime at Pittston, PA terminal. Despite my A seat rating I asked to go out with a trainer for a couple weeks to get back into the swing of things OTR. I was hoping to be trained by the best. Unfortunately (through no fault of her own) she got stuck in MO with truck issues; my loss, no doubt.
As I sit here waiting for my trainer to arrive (17:30) I'm filled with the same feelings I had the first time I went out with a trainer. I'm worried about screwing something up. I'm wondering if we will get along. I'm hoping it won't be too difficult to adjust to the OTR schedule. All the same feelings and doubts I had before only to a lesser degree.
If all goes well I should be in Springfield, MO (Sprimo) in a couple weeks getting my own truck.
Despite the trepidation I'm hoping this time around goes as smoothly as the first. That all my fears are unwarranted. Good luck to any of you new drivers who are getting ready to go out with a trainer. I know how you feel.
Terminal:
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
OTR:
Over The Road
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
