Be aware and get a second number! I am having good (fairly consistent) results with a personal glucose meter for periodic checks and Walgreens home A1C kit to monitor my progress
I got radically different results with the in- office, literally 2 points difference.
Do the smart thing and confirm through a lab like Quest. inexpensive and gets you rolling.
Hmm... bit puzzled. No experience with home A1C. In-office only a couple years or less.
What sorts of numbers are you seeing?
A1C is generally considered to be 3-month average... most reliable over about the most recent 2 months, I think.
It is possible to have good A1C and not good finger sticks... usually if high during the day and low at night.
Lately I awake with around 110 and don't get much over 140 2 hours after eating, unless I didn't take quite enough insulin. I consider 169 high and would take about a unit ( I am on a pump) to get it back around 120ish.
In 5 years I have not had an A1C over 5.9.
Don't know if this helps or not...
If I were on a Continuous Glucose Monitor I would try to get closer to 80 but 110 won't kill me! Won't even cause other major issues...
