This is why I never leave keys in the ignition. Never what to be in that driver's shoes. Obviously it was stolen for the tractor. Must be in pieces by now.
No the entire tractor and trailer was stolen they have found the trailer but not the truck.
I read what u said wrong . Supposedly the truck has been spot several places. There was a report a driver in this truck tried to steal someone’s trailer.

Joy riding in a truck?! Stealing trailers? I'm gonna Google this cause now I'm super curious what his endgame could be.
Side note: That's a sweet looking Pete!
Nothing is sacred anymore for Pete’s sake.
Talking about stealing, I had to leave my first tractor at one of our operating centers for repair. They fixed what they could and then sent it over to Frightliner for some body work. Then I got assigned to a new tractor. When I went back to finish cleaning it out, I had about $100 worth of items stolen. But the thief must be a neat freak because, except for the loose change gone, all they took were cleaning supplies! Two brooms, $50 worth of misc. cleaning fluids and spray bottles, used dust buster and my fox tail floor brush.
What came to my mind is the sign I saw on a work van. It said: “Please don’t steal my tools, I need them to pay your benefits.”
When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

Not joy riding. They will steal a tractor and then use it to steal a trailer, and enclosed freight. Many times with inside information on HI VAL loads. The same reason bank robbers don't use their own car to rob a bank.

I get that part & that's why I wanted more info on the cargo that was in the recovered trailer but for some reason I got no other hits on Google other than this post & his wives FB posts. Oddly, the part about the recovered trailer isn't in her FB posts. Maybe I missed it but she did mention the part about the thief allegedly trying to steal a flatbed and yet again, no mention of the cargo if any. And why no news reports? Either way, I hope they catch the thief & the tractor is intact. He was an owner op with 3 kids.

When my dad was at Con-Way a guy came into their terminal filled out a application and then stole a truck. The keys where not removable from the ignition so took the first unlocked truck he found.
Another driver spotted the truck the next day in Chicago hooked to a reefer and called the police. Turns out the reefer and its orange juice was stolen as well. Guy did a bunch of damage as well the stolen OJ trailer was over 40k on a single axle tractor the suspension was not happy.
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
A refrigerated trailer.
Prime had a trailer stolen last week. Guy dollied down at a ta for the shop to do some minor work . When finished he went back out to lot trailer gone. Prime sent out new policies immediately.
