Hi everyone, I am starting Roehl Transport next month. I am nervous because I am a trans woman and not sure what to expect when I get on the road.

Hi everyone, I am starting Roehl Transport next month. I am nervous because I am a trans woman and not sure what to expect when I get on the road.

There are MANY trans women, and men, and everything in between, out here on the road. I come across them frequently. I personally, don't see drivers treating y'all any different than another driver. But to say it doesn't happen, would be lying. I think there is a FB group for trans drivers.

As far as being nervous, just be yourself, and go after your goals. Don't let anyone get in your way.

I would focus on passing my CLP , my pretrip & my CDL exam. What happens outside of yourself, you have no control over that. How you react is totally under your control.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

CLP:

Commercial Learner's Permit

Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.

Welcome. We have a trans member here, i was trained by a trans woman and my dispatcher has a trans man on his fleet. There is no reason to be nervous about that.

I wrote an article in which i state that your productivity out here is what will matter, not your identity. If you see yourself as different people will treat you that way. If you look to be offended, you will be.

As far as trucking and nerves.. join the club. You will get past that, that is what training is for. Check out my articke below as well as some of my others about training and trucking life on general. I have a few articles to calm those nerves.

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
