Hey guys. Just a little update. So far the school is really good. I have no regrets in coming here for my training. The instructors are very supportive, and helpful. They are top notch in my opinion.

I have driven twice in the last two days. It's fun, and nerve racking. We start testing this next week on Pre-Trip, backing and driving. However, a student gets multiple chances and practice to pass. One student failed 7 times but they continued working with her until she passed. Let me be clear, the instructors and examiners do make it easy. Nothing is given that isn't earned. If you get our CDL it is because you earned it and know the material.

I will update more later but I have a schedule and studying that is calling right now. Thank you guys and ladies at Trucking Truth for being there. I am spreading the word about the website among the student I talk with.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

It sounds like you're settling in with the program Doug - good for you!

I drove across Iowa two days ago and saw a lot of CRST trucks on the road. I kept wondering if you or Millionmiler were in them. It won't be long and you'll definitely be out here traversing the country. Hang in there and stick it out. There's always a trying start to this, but most things worthwhile don't come easily.

Great to read about your first week, Doug. Stick with with it as you’re doing, because truck drivers are made, not born. Wishing you continued success with this training at CRST.

Keep plugging away Doug. I know it seems to drag on and can be overwhelming but you look back on it and it will seem like it flew by. Good luck brother

Good luck Doug.

Don’t let the highs get you too high, or the lows get you too low.

Even keel, maintain focus.
