Cappy,
Congrats on your completing CDL school and learning how drive a semi. Also it is a compliment to you for securing the office job based on your merits. The issue at hand is you do not seem ready or committed to becoming a truck driver. I'm sure everyone has had second thoughts about this choice of a career in the beginning but they went for it. Any job change might bring challenges and pay adjustments but if it is in your heart just go for it. The longer you hesitate or doubt it the harder it will become to do it. Good luck and go with your gut feeling.

Thanks so much for the feedback. You made an excellent point and you are absolutely right about everything you said. I’ve made my decision and I’m going to go for it. I’m a little nervous but excited at the same time.

I am faced with a very difficult decision regarding career change. Back in July of 2018 I was let go of a job that I’d worked for 7 years. After being on unemployment for a month I went over the road with my Truck driver boyfriend. I realized that I actually enjoyed it and decided to go to CDL school. Half way through school my unemployment was about to run out so I started applying for office jobs which is what I’ve always done. My cousin is a recruiter for a company that I’d applied for several times before but didn’t get the job because the other candidates were more qualified. My cousin thought it would be a good idea for me to apply again so I did. Weeks later while still in school I got a call from that same company to come in for an interview. The interview went well and then days later I was called for a second interview. Days later I was offered the position. I accepted because I was thinking about my bills and my current financial situation and not sure if trucking was really right for me. Now I’ve completed CDL school with a class A and all my endorsements and working a office job. Everyday I talk to my class mates who have moved on and are happy being on the road making money and feeling free. I go to work everyday thinking about quitting and going to a company that will train me and have me driving in weeks. I’m just scared because I don’t want to live with regrets if it doesn’t work out and I’ve quit a job my cousin helped me get. Plus I will have to take a pay cut for about a month before I see a real paycheck. Can you please advise me.

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
