I’m in Louisiana in the ta eating. I see a state trooper blue light a yellow gamer logistics truck right on the ramp in to truck stop. They are there for a long time. I’m thinking must not be a regular ticket. Well then the driver drives his truck in to truck stop parks it with the cop right behind him. Once he is parked the cop puts the guy in the cop car and they leave. Is this the way Louisiana handles truck driver or am I missing something?

Could be the guy had an overweight ticket 20 years ago. Turned it in to his company and they said they would take care of it. 20 years later there’s a warrant out for his arrest from the unpaid over weight ticket.

He wasn’t old enough for 20 years ago, but I understand what your saying. Had to be something like that, other wise that wouldn’t let him drive the truck in and park it.

Donna, I got stopped in Mississippi a couple of years ago for a simple inspection. It all went well, but as the officer and I were chatting it up he mentioned that he'd been doing inspections all day and two of the drivers he pulled over didn't even have a CDL!

You just never know what these officers come across out here. It's not a Louisiana thing.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

As a former member of that profession, there is often a LOT of discretion left to the officer in dispositions of vehicles, arrest timing, etc. It is entirely possible that the driver was cooperative enough that the Trooper opted not to tow the rig.

Or the Trooper could have simply not wanted to tie up a ramp (and delay his c&d) waiting the 2 hrs for a heavy haul hook to get there...
