So at 11:01 last night my phone rings. I answer it half a sleep. Oh I woke u up? Well this is night dispatch I need u to go pick up a load right now it delivers at 0600. The driver is sick and can’t drive. I said I’m sleeping. He just kept on u need to pick this load up... on and on.. he was actually rude and then he threatened me.. u leave me no choice but to talk to Ryan about your lack of time management! I said okay goodbye sir. So I get up this morning, check my clock I went into sleeper at 18:37 he is calling me at 23:01, even doing an 8 , I couldn’t have gotten the load. Really, I’m ****ed I’ve never had anyone at Prime talk to me that way.

If it had been my phone the ringer is OFF when I go to sleep, no matter what time of day or night.

But I have kids and grandkids at home. I would worry if I turned my phone off. He knew he woke me up. He knew I was clocked on sleeper. My load was to pick up at 07:30 . He was saying it’s time for u to get up anyway. I just went to bed! It was strange, I called dispatch this morning about the call. He said there were no notes about it on night shift. Therefore he couldn’t tell me who called me.

one option to combat that if you have an Android phone is "do not disturb". You can set it to be silent for all calls or ring for only certain numbers (kids/grandkids). I have mine set for my wife, parents and anytime the same number calls me twice in 5 minutes while sleeping. Comes very in handy being able to get the calls I deem urgent while not being woken up by telemarketers or in your case, dispatch.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

If you have hours, they will call and ask for you to repower. I have been woken as well. Have i always done it? no. Once i was so asleep I thought the truck was on fire and freaked out and then forgot he called and went back to sleep.

So even if when you went into sleeper you had 5 hours of drive time left, yes they can expect you drive it Regardless of how you are logged.

I have had dispatchers who called/messaged the wrong truck because they transposed the truck numbers.

Always get a name. Most just go onto the next truck and don't argue or get nasty. I have a mouth on me...i had 2 who gave me.the "I am emailing your FM"

yeah, ok, you are wasting your time. good luck with that. and i am going back to sleep. if i had a dollar for everytime someone told me i had an attitude problem i would own prime and fire you. I dont say all that, but it is what i am thinking.

Then i asked my FM and he had no idea what i was talking about and didnt care. He wasn't there so it doesnt affect him. He has real problems to deal with when in the office.

There are a few i have hung up on and messaged on the QC "Sorry, bad cell service. what did u want?"

Dont worry about it. Turn off the QC and block Prime on the phone when u sleep lol

Jim palmer once called me to walk down the street at 0300 and wake their driver. ooooohhhh did he ge5 an earful!!! he will never call another prime driver again.

Always ask for a name. And understand.... night and weekend dispatch are often new and think they are doing their jobs. Then they get calls from really new drivers who cant manage their clocks so they get frantic trying to repower people.

The same way Prime and all the other companies forgive our screw ups, we need to forgive theirs. Disrespect is something all together different. If they are nice i let it roll. if they get nasty.... and only one got nasty... i just QC "im sleeping. another message and i will start my on duty clock and you will be repowering this load as well".

of course.... most of them know.me now. so it may not work the same for you. But Ryan knows you and he wont care or reprimand you. he MAY be able to find out who was on that night covering and deal with him though. Unless it was another fleet calling you, then there might not be any way to find out.

My FM once told me "do what you need to do.when im not here and i will deal with it when i get back" Gives me Carte Blanche to do as needed.

You ha e been doing great so keep it up. and dont let an idiot ruin your day. he was probably desperate and yrying to save the load. that is his job... but he needs to work on his people skills.

Always get the name of the ass**** that calls you from weekend dispatch. They will cover their tracks by not using The Qualcomm.....hence no record of who called you.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

That’s what is so strange I started my clock yesterday at 05:00 so my 14 was over at 07:00 . I went in sleeper at 18:37 he calls at 23:01. I couldn’t of moved for another 2 and half hours.

Donna,

Sounds like you are a victim of your own success. While I don't know trucking, I know managers. They always turn to the best employees when in a pinch. And the good thing as Rainy has stated on this thread and several others, if you push back they'll back down, because they don't want to lose you.

At one job, I had a project where I worked my a$$ off to complete and when I got it done, I went into tell my boss is was done and that I was taking the next week off. He said fine, see you in a week.
