Not that I am super over weight. Not by a long shot. 16 years of driving and still 5'10" 215 lbs. Not to bad but I could stand to loose 20 or so lbs which I am on my way to doing without much effort. Just left home time on the 2nd after being home for 6 days. While home spent $3000 and had major dental work done and now have full dentures. Adjusting to them slowly. I happen to have hereditary peridontal disease. So I had to have to the teeth I had left removed due to the teeth eating away my jaw bone and the constant infections (abscess). And no my teeth were not rotting away. After while with infections and the disease my gums and jaw bone would not support a tooth and it would need to be pulled to prevent further infections due to being to loose.

Tell ya what I never knew it would be an issue with eating bread. Lol. With half my gums sewn up its tough to eat due to the pressure you have to use To use chewing. Good thing I happen to love soup and salads not to mention the wonderful selection of Greek Yogart Found In Almost Every Truck stop. But at least I will be back to normal in a few weeks. No sodas either cause they sting the hell out of the stitches in my gums. Water only.

They say it takes at least 21 days to form habits so I guess if I develop the habit of eating healthy then it will be a win win all the way around.

Lived with tooth pain my entire adult life. And only have the tenderness of sore gums for a few weeks and all mouth pain will be gone forever. Can't wait.

Some here might not care one little bit and that's great. I know some here deal with tooth pain all the time. I know the pain they are going through BUT the main reason I shared this is because I am happy to have it done with and I happen to think of those regular forms member as sort of a second family and support group.

Well I guess I will close now and head to bed and wait for the days I can successfully eat an apple again. That's my one dream. Have not eaten a whole apple in about 20 years without cutting it up first. Watch out Granny Smith apples you green beautiful apple....you're days are numbered. Mawahahaha!

Great post Guy!

I did want to meantion. You should start making smoothies in the truck. I do and it's very easy. I bought a small 15$ blender at Walmart. It's supposed to be for "on the go". It's pretty small so it's easy to store and you can drink it right from the plastic bottle.

I make a Spinach Smoothie all the time!

Ingredients: 2 handfuls of Spinach 1/2 Apple diced 1 Banana 1 cup of Greek Yogurt (not the Dannon or Yoplait crap) 1 cup Strawberries or Grapes

It's very easy and isn't too thick so it's easy to swallow. It doesn't sound like it but it's actually very delicious! So there you go, you can have those beautiful green apples again! As a matter of fact I'm craving some now!

Well I sure hope the pain fades quickly and your new teeth serve you well!!! There are few things worse than tooth pain. Glad to hear you're moving on to a whole new era!

When you get your new dentures you'll have to change your profile pic to one with a huge smile full of beautiful pearly whites like this guy:

...or one of you eating an apple. Either way it's a big win for ya. Glad to hear it!

Few people know that the same infection ( periodontal disease) is also an infection that can attack the sack around the heart, causing major scaring on the heart surface, and even death. My father died from this issue, and it is easily prevented, by proper oral care, or as in Guys case, dentures are an option. I also have dentures, and had a mouthful of very healthy teeth ( no cavities) when I was 20. Why ?? because I have a severe allergy to all of the inject able numbing agents. I lived in a very rural area, and after having a few teeth broken ( in horse wrecks), the doctor advised that having my teeth pulled would be a reasonable option. I have really liked my dentures, and don't miss the fear of getting an infection in my heart that would show no signs until it was to late. And Guy...I really like eating apples, also...

You can have a lot of fun with that. My grandpa used to love to detach his lower partial and stick it out at us kids to gross us out. rofl-3.gif

Guyjax, congratulations on the new ivories! My father-in -law had a lot of trouble with periodontal disease, and he would come back from a visit to the dentist and tell me, "well, the dentist said my teeth were doing just fine, but my gums have to go!"

My grandfather was the same way..lost all of his teeth to PD when he was in his mid 30's but it had still ravaged his heart by then and we didn't know about that until he was in his late 60's and he died way too young at 75...

I need to get dentures, Got hit in the face with a metal pipe, broke my jaw in 3 places and smashed up some teeth. But I have Crohns had it since I was 14 and was taking Prednisone for years. (its a steroid used to treat inflammation, not the muscle one) And prolonged use can weaken the Bones and the teeth. So I get the need for the couple weeks of pain for a better quality of life.

As for the eating healthy, I might be able to help with that. My truck had a fridge in it so I'd stock up on plastic cups and a lot of fruit. slice up the fruit and put em in the cup. (It's a lot like the fruit cups that love's sells, except it isnt 5 bucks. and you can pick out your favorite fruit.) Go to GNC and get the GNC Pro Performance® AMP Strength Vitapak® Program it cost like 70 bucks but is well worth it. I did Flatbed so my work out was the load securing and tarping, 95lbs tarps, started out with the big 130lbs two peice set lol. and I had a habit of "snacking" while I drive so I replaced the chips and what not with the fruit and withen 2 months I had a huge loss of body fat and a big increase in muscle mass and out line. I wasn't like OMG HULK OUT but I went from 190 and out of shape to 190 and in the best shape of my life (well other than when I was down range in the Corps.) It was a healthy mix of body fat and muscle. And just a fyi I still ate fast food atleast once or twice a week lol

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

Dude! Welcome to the club. Without getting into why I have had fakies for about three years. Went thru all the crap, soft food, shakes and what ever you think you can handle. I wouldnt wear my lowers because they would just fall out. I went to the dentist and asked about those new fangled ones that dont fall out. After some drilling and some new pain, they installed four posts in my lower jaw and now my lowers just snap in and I can eat almost anything. I say almost, havent found anything I cant eat but I am sure there is something. My uppers are still free so I remove them at night and at some other times that I cant talk about here. Best thing I ever did. You will get used to it trust me. Just like starting a trucking job in 6 months you wont even remember how bad it sucked when you were getting used to them. Enjoy the suck bro. It will be over soon enough. I like the shake idea. That sounds good. I had to stop with the shakes, DQ is so good. I spent years not being able to eat ice cream. So I tryed to make up for it all the first few months. Not to good for the mid section :)

Guyjax I know the feeling well. I had to get a top plate back in 2004. It will get better over time. In a few months your gums will toughen up and you will be back to eating everything you did before. I did take me a long time to figure out how to eat an apple with out pulling out my plate though.
