I was on my way south through Connecticut from Massachusetts. Shortly after getting on 95 I began getting "distance warning" messages popping up. Every 30 seconds or so another warning would alert. These warnings are supposed to come on when you get too close to or are gaining too quickly on a car in front of you. I contacted road assist and they told me to bring it in to a terminal.

That was a scary ride. Going under almost every overpass, the collision warning would go off. The collision warning alerts you when you are dangerously close to a car or object. It will also slam the breaks on for you sometimes. The distance warning kept going off every 30 seconds too. In the little tunnel approaching the GW bridge the collision warning was beeping at me the whole time. I was thinking the truck was going to apply the breaks every time that collision warning went off. Somehow the breaks were never engaged. I dont know how I would have driven to the terminal if the truck kept automatically applying the breaks.

And wouldn't ya know, about an hour from the terminal everything was working fine again. SMH.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

I have had my truck in the shop a total of 7 or 8 days the last 2 weeks for issues with the CMS system on mine, we have the Wabco ones and they suck, constant problems with them. Wish they would stick with the Freightliner and KW ones much more reliable imo.

Preface comments with Knocks On Wood Repeatedly, but....

That's about the only thing so far that hasn't malfunctioned in my current ride.

If it's electrical, linked, calibrated, aimed, aligned or periodically requires updates, count on it to malfunctioned. I have my semi-weekly transmission failure fault codes/alarm bells and warning this morning (after I had trailer tire #3 in 5 days replaced). I continued to move forward driving this time, and it cleared itself for a change. I should be good until the third high tide, after the Moon is at 3/4 full, during a month that ends with the letter "R".

Yeah, dude. This is the first issue I have had. I had another Freightliner before. No problems with that either.

Darn, Packrat! You paint a bleak picture. Might be a Witch-doctor that could turn your luck around.smile.gif

Any chance you were driving in the rain today or yesterday? Sometimes you have to clean off the Shield to get this to work properly. I had this happen to me several times last winter during snow storms. And it actually locked my brakes up several times.

Yes, it was raining yesterday. Usually it just says the cruise isn't available. Same with snow. It never gave false signals before. But that could be it, JYD.

In these newer trucks they are fussy. When you turn your key on wait and let the truck cycle through the stuff before starting it. If you have weird codes or lights come on and things seem fine, many times shutting it off for 30 seconds or so and restarting it will fix the issue.

The guys in the shop who fixed my truck said there was an ABS malfunction and that this could generate false warnings. I'm just glad it is fixed and ready to roll.

And thanks for the advice, PJ.

Yes, treat the truck just like a computer or cell phone...starts acting weird, turn it off for a few minutes (reboot). This does the trick many times.
