Mirror cams are coming to market. Mercedes Benz, owners of Frieghtliner, have been rolling them out on their Mercedes Benz Actros line in Europe.

They are installed on the A pillars. They also act as security cams if you have curtains drawn.

Blind spots are an issue. Even seasoned truckers can't see what's going on near their truck. Though of course, good driving habits and paying attention to things goes a long way for safety.

Once I was literally blindsided to find a full-size semi was on my right (largest blind spot) two lanes away. He had come up on an on-ramp, and the situation was timed so that I didn't see him come onto the interstate.
