Hello my name is Emily. I'm trying to find a trucking company that offers Cdl training and is a team driving company, because me and my wife are wanting to drive together. We are wondering if there are any companies that will Allow you to stay out 4 months straight and take 3 to 4 weeks off. My wife is from the Philippines and we would like to go visit at least 2 times a year. Would this be possible? Also we have to toy poodles, what companies let you have two pets on the truck?...all answers helps thanks!

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

I am no expert, but I know when we talked with the recruiter, Frank Bradley, from Covenant he told us they have a man working there that lives in Puerto Rico and he works 3 month in a row then flys home for 3weeks.

The down side is and I have heard this from every company I have talked to if you take more than a week off they need their asset, the truck, rolling so they want you to clean out your truck so it can be used by someone else. Frank said their employee just adjusted to that lifestyle and lives light in the truck so it's no big deal for him. I'm pretty sure covenant does training.

Good luck and welcome to the best site for information on trucking!!

Welcome, Emily. I think you'll find it exactly as Amber described. There are numerous Paid CDL Training Programs that welcome team couples. But most if not all will want you to turn in your truck before leaving on an extended trip. Upon your return, you simply hop into another truck and roll again until your next vacation.
