As I mentioned in another post, I am doign my first run using an ELD. The company is renting a truck from Ryder. My question is, when I am ferrying the empty truck from the Ryder facility to where it will be loaded for the trip, does that have to be logged, or can I wait and start my log when I actually leave the company after the truck is loaded?

You are driving, so that goes on the Driving line. It's not for Personal Conveyance. If empty trucks "didn't count" for HOS , you can imagine how many dead tired drivers would show up for loading.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

That's what I thought. Makes sense.

If you can drive under five miles an hour to get loaded up you won't be on the driving line...lol...wish I could drive 250 miles deadhead to load...full clock when i leave loading dock... Not gonna happen and anyway as soon as the truck is moving over five mph our eld automatically kicks you into driving... Not many was to get around this system. Good luck on your trip...enjoy the ride.

Deadhead:

To drive with an empty trailer. After delivering your load you will deadhead to a shipper to pick up your next load.
