In January 1991, I got the proverbially "letter in the mail, go to war or go to jail."
After "retraining" at Ft. Bennning, Georgia they asked "do you want to be light or mechanized infantry." I said light infantry.
They sent me to the 25th Infantry Division, Tropic Lighting, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. After the 1st Marine Division rolled through Kuwait, they sent up back home.
Thanks for your patriotism Donna and thanks to all of you for paying for my three week trip to Hawaii.
Looking forward to hearing other veterans share their Desert Storm service memories.
You're welcome, Donna.
I was on the ground in Kuwait with elements of the 3rd Ranger Battalion two nights before the air campaign began (I was still in the Army then). One of my special assignments was to hold the lazer on selected targets, illuminating these so the lazer-guided bombs could find them. These were "smarter bombs" than previously used, but nowhere near the capabilities of our munitions today.
When the ground games started, we were in Saudia Arabia.

75th Ranger Regiment 3rd Battalion?
I wargamed with them at Ft Bragg in 1984. I think they thought it was real ;)

That's the one, and only Ranger Regiment. 1988 to 1991.
Panama, Honduras, Desert Shield/Desert Storm, some other locales south of the border.
I was stationed at Ft Bragg with the 82nd Airborne from 1987 to 1988.
All of my US military duty stations were on the east coast. I count Kentucky in there, too.

Not truck related but I know we have a lot of veterans here. Today is 29 anniversary of Desert Storm, and I would like to thank all that served.
