Subject says it all. He was very nonchalant about it. Didn’t even try to hide it. I thought at first he must be rolling his own cigarettes until I realized it was in a baggy and was green.

And he just rolled another and left.

Need an angry face. I know there are those of you younger guys that believe it doesn't do any harm, but having worked in a hospital and seen wrecks from tokers, I just as soon not see drivers allowed to partake....and it's still illegal.

For those of you in pain, I'd like to see CBD cream regulated and you use that.

It's indisputable that judgment and reaction time are adversely affected. What comes to my mind, tho, is would I look the other way or report that driver?

Smoking ordinary tobacco cigarettes in public places is illegal, too, but if exposed, I'd walk away, not look for authorities. I'd be removing myself from second-hand smoke risk and leaving it to others to make similar decisions about being in harm's way and standing up for their rights.

If it was an impaired drunk driver, I wouldn't hesitate to make a report. However, there's no visible impairment displayed here - who knows this driver's intent, maybe not for consumption on duty - yes, there's "half-life" type residuals but that's another idea.

I dunno what I'd do. This is a challenging thought for me. Rationality tells me I should consider acting in the broader interest of the community and make a call on the guy for the potential outcome of preventing a deadly crash at a later point.

Especially now that I'm a doyenne, lol.

Could also very well be hemp he is rolling. Hemp is legal and people smoke it for the CBD. It contains a negligible amount of THC.

He probably has a bulk bag of tobacco at home and the baggie is just his weekly amount. I wouldn’t think he’d roll more than one joint. He probably figures he’ll smoke two cigarettes on the way to where he’s going.

As far as the post about Hemp. If you want to believe that the amount of THC is negligible, then by all means smoke it and let me know how tour next random goes. I don’t know much about the stuff. Even a hint of ****ing dirty is a red light for me.

Keep it clean drivers

Hate to be a buzzkill here - but just like alcohol - there is NO SUCH THING AS A NEGLIGIBLE AMOUNT for safety sensitive positions. A .02 may not get you a DUI - but it WILL GET YOU AN OOS (and a trip to the unemployment line, where you will be denied for being "terminated for cause").

I'm all for legalized weed - but FIND ANOTHER FIELD OF EMPLOYMENT if you want to partake. And sitting a a COMMERCIAL VEHICLE ROLLING A FATTY - IS.NOT.OK.

Rick

(and I've driven a POV literally hundreds of thousands of miles stoned/tripping on dead tour without incident - but THAT DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT).

DUI:

Driving Under the Influence

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

I am curious to know how many CDL holders partake in illegal substances and/or alcohol either while driving or during a 10 hour break. I have an acquaintance who works on a drug task force and his only interaction with truck drivers involves drug dealers selling to truckers at truck stops. I've mentioned the zero drug tolerance perspective that I've learned on this forum to him, but from his perspective that doesn't seem to limit the number of truck drivers buying drugs.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
