Sage is actually a chain of schools. I'm not sure how many they have, but there's quite a few of them coast to coast. They're a very reputable school and definitely one worth consideration.
Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices
Thanks, I called them and it turns out they are moving and their students are not elligable for loans or pale grants even though they say on their website that they are... bummer :(
Justin, you can find driving schools that have a program certified by PTDI (Professional Truck Driver Institute) here:
http://www.ptdi.org/schools/schools.aspx
Typically, you won't go wrong (my opinion) with one of these schools.
Honestly, that PTDI certification is worthless. It's a marketing gimmick basically. I wouldn't pay any attention to that.
The best truck driving school is the one that will give you the most choices of employment, right after they give you the very best training there is to offer. Don't be fooled by their phony promises. The truth is always put down in black and white. If they tell you but won't put it in print....be warned, it probably isn't true.....

Hey, yeah SAGE in Kingman might not even re-open. They need to be linked to a local community college since the dont have a license in AZ. I just got back from spending two days there (Wed and Thurs) and spent lots of time with the director, Rich. I am convinced that SAGE is an excellent, quality school. They let me drive a truck on the range by myself, which was way coooooooool. I even straight lined back twice without hitting any cones and did an offset back to the left without hitting any cones. First time in a conventional and first time in any truck in over 25 years. Like riding a bike!!! I am right now checking class starting dates for SAGE in Utah and Grand Junction CO. I am ready to pull the trigger and get this ball rolling! Keep you all posted. BE safe!! Thanks.

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
Check with your local Labor Dept they usually have grants to help with funding that is what I am doing and SAGE is the best in my opinion. For one you get more instruction that you do with a Company Paid Training.
This place sounds good (Sage)
I had heard of them before my research and then it dawned on me that I had a few good friends back home who went there, so I got on the phone and I found out that not only did they get help paying for the class and other things, but the class gave them the best instruction they could possibly ask for and help with the job search process. That is where I was sold.. You live in Tennessee? I would check to see if your state has WIA (Worker's Investment Act) and I am pretty sure they do.. Get in that program through them they will help with so much its unreal!
