Do what you need. Your record is well established. Provide for your family. Nobody's gonna let your willingness to work right now be a red flag. Get to work - you'll feel a lot better with something to accomplish until this madness blows over.
Thank you Old School!!! I just wanted some input on the topic knowing that any little hiccup can get you denied by the trucking companies. I don’t want to create an unnecessary hurdle for myself that would complicate starting this new career.
Operating While Intoxicated
I was going to say nearly the exact same thing as OS. Maintaining gainful employment through this time will be a good thing.
DD, I totally grew with OS and Turtle.
Be safe!
Thanks OS, G-Town and Turtle. I appreciate your input. Guess I was overthinking how it might look to a trucking company. I figured they would understand after explaining myself if it did come up as an employment/commitment issue.
Other reason I asked is due to the rumors floating around that this shutdown very well may last into June/July. I definitely can’t sit in limbo till then!
Thanks again
So I Applied to a few of the companies that contract with Amazon and got a few offers. They all offer same benefits and pay the same so I went with the one that started earliest in the morning, 9am, the others started around 11ish-Noon. Had an online interview/orientation yesterday through Zoom. Currently waiting for an email telling me where to go to take drug test. Hoping to start sometime this coming week. Looks like I’m gonna sling some packages until the Corona storm settles.
There are a few similarities to trucking. I have to pre and post trip the van each day. They have a digital kind of bill of lading that I need to make sure matches the packages going on my van. Theres an app that tracks your driving and scores you accordingly, have to maintain an 800 or better to be considered safe and keep position.
Although I’m happy to get out and do something for now, I hope to be back on track to start my trucking career sometime in the summer

So what does it pay? And are you a 1099?
I'm sure I'm not the only one curious :)
I understand *why* you're doing it, just want to know the details.

Pay isn’t the greatest but it will cover most of my bills without tapping into my savings too hard. They are currently paying $17 an hr due to the corona crisis. It is not a 1099 gig, regular job with weekly tax deductions and direct deposit. They do offer health, dental, and eye after 90 days but I’m already covered under wife's plan. I don’t think I’ll be there long enough for vacation and sick days to kick in. They usually run 10 hr days. 4 days on, 3 off, there is overtime available once you prove yourself reliable and efficient. This is not an Amazon flex job in my own vehicle, I’ll be driving one of the Dodge Amazon vans.
Like I stated in the topic title, this is just a temporary gig to keep me busy and have some $$$ coming in until the DMV’s open back up and things get back to normal.
The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.

As some of you know, I had planned on being in or on way to company training by now. Now that the corona has put almost everyone on hold, I find myself in a tough spot and need some advice from the wisemen here.
I cant get back to my accountant to finish dissolving my landscape business and complete my 2019 taxes due to the shutdown. I have been paying myself a check bi-weekly all winter off of my company to avoid a gap in employment. That money is Going to run out in May, I don't want to burn through all the other money I saved up to float me through training during this shutdown. On top of that, I’m not a sit around and do nothing person, I’m out of projects and things to fix around the house. I’m going bananas not working.
There are a ton of Amazon driving jobs available right now around Philly. That could keep me busy and provide enough money to cover essential bills.
Question: would I look like a job hopper if I was to work as an Amazon driver for a month or few months until this blows over and I can get back to original plan? Will the trucking companies understand that I was just doing what I had to under unique circumstances to maintain an income for my family?
Note: I dont want to ruin my chances with Swift by taking a temp job. I have only worked 6 different jobs since 1992. I am not a job hopper by any means.
