On our way to church this morning I noticed this dumpster (?) or "something" along the highway and a Cat loader doing something there as we pass by. Thought it was odd. Turned to go across the Rio Vista bridge (about a half mile long or a bit more and Cal Trans is directing traffic. Traffic is stopped for five minutes or so and we're worried that the bridge is having mechanical problems again (was stuck a little over a week ago when trying to lift for a ship and took six hours to get dropped). I read later that "something" was a truck trailer that some truck driver lost when trying to cross the bridge and struck the first girder. Maybe a dump truck?? Seems to have kept going for quite a ways after getting knocked off. It appears the first girder is damaged and they have stopped traffic at least once to replace some signs. CalTrans said they were going to restrict traffic to one way for three hours to get the trailer removed but some farmer came with his tractor and drug it off all the way across the bridge and then some. I did not see any signs of the offending driver and truck.

"I did not see any signs of the offending driver and truck."

Probably didn't want to take responsibility and high tailed out of there. I wonder if the dumpster bed has a serial number that can be traced to that truck.

How not to Weigh Your Truck.

It looks as if he uncoupled from the trailer to weigh the trailer only. What purpose that serves, I haven't a clue. It looks like he has a line forming behind him trying to scale. What an inconsiderate driver.

The only thing worse is if he entered the scale from the DO NOT ENTER end.

I have entered from the do not enter before. It was the only way to exit a truck stop at which I was parked. There were some creatives parked on the sides of the lanes, and I didn't have enough room to swing my truck to avoid hitting their trailers. So, through the do not enter I went. I drove across it very slowly. I didn't however uncouple from my trailer.

I have done that maneuver to exit a truck stop if everything was blocked.

I've done it a bunch of times. Always at night, after the goofballs block everything by "make-your-own-parking" idiots.

Michael is home on his break, leaving early tomorrow morning, but he shared a story I hadn't heard before that I found interesting.

He said that when his last team driver (I'll call him "Roger") at CR England was in training he was being trained by "Alice" and another trainee "Jose" was with them. Roger was driving and stopped at a truck stop and Jose moved to the top bunk to sleep and after a while Roger and Alice went in the truck stop to grab something quick and then came back to the truck and drove off. They got down the road a ways before they got an angry phone call from Jose cussing them out for leaving him behind at the truck stop. They had assumed he was still sleeping in the top bunk and laughed at themselves as they drove back to get Jose.

Anybody hear of someone accidentally being left behind?

By the way, it is against CR England policy for someone to sleep in the top bunk while the truck is in motion.

There have been NUMEROUS tales of that woe; many right here on TT !! I'm thinking G'Town and Old School were the contributors, maybe they'll "re share ?!? "

Yeah, we've heard. They DO make that clear ... very! Wonder if Alice is still employed (there?) confused.gif

Moral of the story; I bet Roger was sure glad to get on Michael's truck, yes?!?!?dancing-dog.gif

Did he get a video, perchance ?!?!rofl-3.gif

Be safe, be kind; y'all !
