Agreed, PJ. Couldn't come at a better time, around here (TT) with people wanting to 'question' their contracts. Sheesh.
Thanks for the great laugh this morning Dave. These type of ridiculous lawsuits need to quit tying up our court system. If they had complaints about the contract they have with CRST why sign it? If you sign something without reading it that's your problem. I'm sure the actual costs to train a driver are higher than what CRST charges. If you factor in transportation, lodging, pad time then OTR training that's a huge investment that takes time to recoup.
The gist of the lawsuit, titled Curtis Markson, et al vs. CRST International, Inc., et al., is that the named carriers conspired to not hire drivers still under contract with other drivers, and thus prevented drivers from upward or sideways mobility in order to allow them to advance their driving careers.
I cant exactly believe that these rookie drivers that couldn't even fulfill a 9 month contract (if I'm not mistaken) have many options of moving upward. I wonder if these individuals involved are currently driving or if they've been out if the seat since the lawsuit started 4 years ago. CRST is so unreasonable to expect somebody to fulfill the contract or pay it off *sarcasm*. When will people quit trying to get a free handout and stick to your word. I wonder if the other carriers being sued have told candidates they're not able to hire them due to the non compete with CRST or if they just get the generic "we have better qualified candidates" excuse. Just another example of why that excuse is given. Either way, what a waste of everybodies time and money.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Yep 10 months is about the shortest contract I've heard of. It used to be 8 months @ CRST probably due this type of stuff they bumped it up 2 months extra.
Rooms are $150 per week, 3 to a room, for what 3 weeks tops ! Breakfast is $8 bucks a day, lunch is served at the outside school sandwiches n chips, figure another 8 bucks School buses students, to n from the school daily.
Payroll deductions are like $40 a week for "maybe" 3 months, I forget. It isn't THAT hard,or long for a new career change to stick it out 10 months jeeze I got 1 month left on mine and, really seems time flew by !.......I plan to stick it out even after my contracts up at least another year & a half til I retire at 62, and move to the Philippines lol

Ooops forgot to add, NOW they have students out with a trainer 60 days, not 28 !! Lots need that much time too many newbs crashing trucks.......1 fell asleep months ago, at 5 am, ran right into the Platte River of I-80 bout 4 feet deep !!
