Jerome, I'm not a proponent of owning trucks. I'm a driver, that's what I want to be. I'm a business owner, and have owned plenty of big trucks. I've found no advantages to being an owner/operator in today's trucking business environment. I want to maximize my earnings, and I've found that being a really solid company driver is the best path for my purposes.
As for your specific question... There's little to no evidence that they will ever get those trucks produced at a feasible price or a feasible length of haul for your typical OTR application. In fact, they don't even have a factory started yet. For now, it's pure speculation. It's a "story." I never buy a "story."
Ten years from now maybe I'll feel different, but for now, there's no telling if these things will ever be available. Trevor Milton spins a good tale, but I'm a skeptic. They've got some awesome renderings, and some outlandish claims, but no trucks can be had. They've got investors, but no revenues. They've got hype, but no product. They've got people's attention and curiosity, but nothing tangible.
There's nothing to buy at this point.
Maybe I've rambled on - let me be clear. My answer to your question is NO - I would not buy one of the trucks that they're supposed to come out with.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
I dunno, get enough of these electric mowers in a "platoon" or whatever and you may have something. Imagine the turning capabilities.
