I've been looking for some online driver training vendors that provide a good course selection, with quality content at a reasonable price. I'd really appreciate it if you all could provide some names of ones you use and /or like to help narrow this down a bit. Thanks in advance.

I’m not entirely sure what you’re looking for. If you’re looking to get your CDL with online courses i think that’s a non starter to get hired somewhere. You’ll need a certificate for a minimum of 160 hours of in person, hands on training.

Is school necessary

If you’re looking to study for your CLP (permit) look no further than the High Road training offered right here.

If there’s something else you’re looking for let us know specifically what you’re looking to gain from the online training

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

CLP:

Commercial Learner's Permit

Before getting their CDL, commercial drivers will receive their commercial learner's permit (CLP) upon passing the written portion of the CDL exam. They will not have to retake the written exam to get their CDL.

Jeff, it's fairly simple to get a CDL on your own. It's also pretty much a wasted effort. Why don't you tell us what your objectives are. We all started somewhere, and we reached our goals. We can give you advice on how to get this done in a way that is helpful towards a career.

People tend to think a CDL is a golden ticket to opportunity. But that is a great misunderstanding. How you obtain it has much more influence on your value as an employee than the CDL itself. Don't sell yourself short. Take the best path that helps you reach your goals.

Give us some more info and we can guide you much better.

Thank you both for the quick responses. I'm actually not looking to get a CDL , I'm looking for more of a continuing education for our existing drivers. Monthly refresher training online courses like what JJ Keller offers. A few that I found include Vertical Alliance (Infinit-I) and CarriersEdge to name a couple, but that's about all I can find and I'd like to look at some more options you all may recommend. Thanks again. I really appreciate the advise.
