I passed the DOT physical last week and was issued a 1 year card owing to type 2 diabetes. I should commence the Swift Training Academy in Waco, Ga. in about 3 weeks. The academy is only 29 miles away. I tried this once before but backed out. I know little to nothing about the trucking industry and what I do know is likely based on faulty information. I have basically one question-how difficult is it to go from being in one geographical location your entire life(60 years) to suddenly being all over the place in near constant motion? I fully expect being razzed for asking such a question .

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

If it’s the yearning of the heart, it won’t matter.

It’ll take a little getting used to, but it can be an enjoyable experience. I live in Florida and asked Schneider to send me west a few years back. I got to California, Winslow, AZ (no girl in a flatbed Ford), through Phoenix and Denver a couple of times each and survived quite well.

Enjoy your ride! 😎

You're definitely gonna get use to it after awhile. I mean I was use to being in one place myself as I reached adulthood (my dad stopped taking me on his trucking adventures as soon as I turned 17 or 18. So afterwards I would go to work (FedEx Express), go home, shower, eat, sleep, repeat. As I was doing all of these everyday none stop, my mind and body would get so use to it that,I nearly forgot about trucking and the life it comes with. At the end of the day,I knew this is what I wanted to do and I was gonna do it. Right now I'm in my second week of Roadmasters, looks like I'll be doing my evaluation today on my pre-trip and in-cab inspection. So far so good. But sending lots of luck to you.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
