I use something similar ti this. It's a ramp that folks once and it's really convenient to store inside the truck. Just don't put it between the cab and the trailer.
Petsmart might have something similar.

Keeping nails trimmed short might help.
Mikey B., when I was on the road w/my Husband, we saw a lady in a rig at a rest area, that had those plasticky green welcome mats (indoor out door grass type) cut to fit and zip tied on her steps.
We thought that was pretty clever~!
Hope your puppers heals quick, tho~~!
Use the black plastic grass that are at the truck stops... They're already cut to fit onto your steps. Trying to get them zip-tied is a pain in the neck but that's how you attach them. I used my points to get them for my driver side steps for taking my dog in when the weather is nasty. Otherwise, at 10 pounds I just lift him in and out :-)

They sell mats to wipe your feet at the truck stop. These attach with included cable ties.
Thanks for the help. I got this at Flying J just now. Think I'll get another and completely cover the top step and maybe one for the bottom.

Oops, forgot the pic.
That's what I use here. I meant to take a photo before dark, but I failed!
I had two on the driver side (one per step), then one on the top step on the passenger side.
I secure mine with one heavy duty zip tie per hole. The zip ties eventually will break and need replacement.

Does anyone have suggestions as to what I can put on these steps that wont affect traction but will keep my dog from getting hurt? She gets in and out by herself but yesterday she broke a nail, although the nail is still attached, on an entry. It is broken to the quick and bleeding. She is limping a little but this is the second time she has done this. Any suggestions are welcome. I don't want anything that may be slick when wet like carpet might be but I gotta do something.
