I've had my CDL dice 2006, by haven't utilized or driven since 2009. I've maintained my medical, and now am thinking about driving. Western Express has offered to train and get me back driving. Any thoughts on that? Or any other tips would be appreciated.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Where else have you applied?

I would suggest looking at several job offers before deciding.

Hey, Josh.

This Apply For Truck Driving Jobs is a good resource. These are outfits that have been positives for people on here, and given your experience you'll likely be able to get a solid look from most. Due to the lengthy absence (over ten years) there is a strong likelihood that you may have difficulty with insurance company acceptance from many outfits - JRod ( https://www.truckingtruth.com/truckers-forum/Comments/User-41391/Page-1/ ) would probably have a better handle on that given his status as a driver recruiter. Good luck to you getting back into it!
