So this morning I was down in Avenel New Jersey at U. S. Gypsum picking up a load of wallboard. Once I got loaded the warehouse guy asked me to strapp down my load out side of the warehouse because they were slammed with getting other trailers loaded. No problem I usually secure my load outside the warehouse granted this was my third time picking up a load from here. Just past the warehouse is a parking area where I go so I can get everything strapped down. Basically there is inner parking lot with an outside lane in the one photo graph you can see the "Islands" that sperate the lane I parked in and the physical parking lot. So as I'm in the process of securing my load I have my Rol-Tight open and I'm throwing straps. Along comes this Western Express driver trying to make a Left hand turn down the lane I'm parked in mind you there are no posted signs prohibiting parking. So the Western driver stops looks down the lane and decides to go for it and it didn't turn out well basically his trailer off tracked and went over two of the "Islands" and he knocked down a tree. He gets through and stops at the warehouse he then comes back to where I am takes a picture of the tree he knocked down then goes into the warehouse gets two of the warehouse guys to come out and look at the tree. All the while I'm still strapping down my load no one says a word to me. I figured that when the WE driver reports this to his safety department (If he does) he will probably say I was blocking the lane the only problem with that is you can drive all the way around the warehouse complex. If he had backed up there was more than enough room for him to turn around and go the other direction. Like I said before I have parked in the exact same location the previous two times I've loaded there and had drivers pass by me coming from the rear position of my trailer and they have gotten around me with no problems. So my question is was I in the wrong where I parked?

HE drove over the curbs and over the tree. Nobody had a gun to his head.

His bad decision, obviously.

That's exactly what I thought but nowadays no one takes responsibility it's everyone else who at fault. Like I posted the WE driver never came up to me. I don't know if he took any pictures of my rig. I was on the other side of my trailer tightening up my load straps I saw him walk up with his phone in hand and I assume he was talking pictures of the tree he could have taken a picture of my passenger side door. Any way I took pictures of where I was parked and the downed tree also to show that there were no posted "No Parking" signs and of course I let my FM know in case WE safety gives my safety office a call. Just covering my bases.

Fm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

It was inside the warehouse complex so private. The Irony of the whole thing was I already had my straps over the load and hooked to the flat bed. If he'd asked I could have moved back up so he would have had room to maneuver. I've got no problem helping out a fellow driver.
