Something people don't ask about with leasing is health care. Most don't have health insurance. so they have to pay tons of money if they get sick.

And check this out... .i just got strep throat and an ear infection. My truck needed to go into the shop. I got back to the terminal went to the Prime doctor for a $30 copay they did two tests and determined strep and ear infection. My prescriptions were $3.10 for both. They gave me a note out from work until Monday and because the truck is in the shop I got free hotel rooms for both me and my student. And I get breakdown pay for sitting here. So I am sick in bed and still making money.

If I was lease.... No insurance so probably $100 for doctor. No RX. So $74 for meds.... No free hotel rooms. $400 for 2 rooms. No breakdown pay, but I would have to pay the student $100 per day so $400. And I would be in the hole about $4000 in revenue ($1000 per day)... In addition to the $1250 of the lease/incidental payments.

So company.... I will probably come out to getting paid about $370 which does suck but I needed to rest and am not in the hole. Also....i made $3300 this week as a trainer running 5600 miles and $2800 last week. So I can deal.

Lease.... I would have been down about $6000 just for being sick then would have to run hard for 3 weeks to make that up and have money for me. Sounds like fun huh?

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Sorry to hear you got sick, hope you get well soon. Some very good points.

I find it crazy Prime would expect the trainer to pay for the student. Sorry but that is their responsibility in my mind. That is also a very crazy lease payment. Even more reason not to lease a truck from a carrier.

The lease trainers pay all expenses for the students and is part of their agreement. The trainer agrees. Many companies do this. The lease payment is a lot true.... But brand new trucks and no balloon payment on a lease purchase, just the down payment. The lease purchase is a lot better than a few other companies.... But not my idea of worth it.

Thanks guys!
