Wow, that sure makes me feel safer with those Mexican trucks on American roadways. I always thought they were less safe than ours and Canadian trucks but it appears they are in much better shape than ours...(eyeroll)... I do wonder however just how much extra income Mexican inspectors made during inspection week.
The mirror less truck is a interesting concept, not sure if introducing additional failure points is worth it however.
Regular mirrors screens don't freeze, go blank, get a error message or crash completely.
Fedex freight has those cameras on their newer tractors and I'm not a fan. I can look in the mirror and see what's in front of me at the same time. Having to focus on a screen isn't the same and your mind has to be trained to do it. I think it's more dangerous and does more harm than good.
I haven't had the honor of using a truck with one yet, we don't even have automatics yet, let alone some new fangled camera system lol.
I did like the idea of the camera being able to follow the rear of the trailer while backing up so you don't have to keep adjust mirrors out and in.
Daimler in Europe runs mirror-cams on some of their Actros trucks. There are youtube reviews on them fwiw.
