Good luck you guys. You may not actually mind a mask when you are outside. Current weather is 12 degrees just north of Milwaukee. Actually 1 degree currently in Marshfield.

1 degree? That's cold, man... I guess I'll pack a few more layers.

So the training starts, it is 6am, and I am ready for the breakfast :-) I believe the learning will be intense - I have already received 17 emails with all kind of homework.

Since I started this thread, I'll keep posting. I am very thankful (большое спасибо всем! in my native Russian) to all those people who took time and shared their training experience, so here is my report, maybe it will also help somebody. So today it was 12/28, day 1. The group consists of eight people. We met our instructor in the lobby, drove to the terminal , did some paperwork, listened to more or less familiar stuff about safety, had lunch, did more listening, then tried shifting on a simulator worth 500k, and finally started learning pretrip on nice and new Freightliners.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Yeah! Now this thing is rolling for you.

Incidentally, Daniel B., a legendary moderator on here, is of Russian descent. I know some spoken words, but cannot read the language at all.

Thank you, folks, for your support! Here is my 2nd day at Roehl. The company treats us as trainees from day one, so we do paper logs every day, and get paid for these real hours. There was a long lecture by a safety guy, nothing new though, and that was it - no more classroom time. Right after lunch we went to the yard (2-3 people for each trainer), did pretrip and started bobtailing around, practicing up and down shifting. I really like this fast-paced and practical no-bull**** approach.

Bobtail:

"Bobtailing" means you are driving a tractor without a trailer attached.

Is it Daniel B. with a parrot? There are two Daniels B. here :-)

Yes, the one with the parrot. His last name is Babayev, and he's married to a Ukrainian girl named "Olga."
