Welcome to Trucking Truth JT!
Honestly, I don't think you're going to have much of an issue. You will have to provide tax records for your own verification. Your wife may need to provide some documentation indicating she's been homeschooling/raising children. It's fairly easy to do. Have three of your friends (not family members) write a brief paragraph stating they know your wife and can verify that she has been staying at home raising her children. Provide dates in the document covering the past three years, and contact numbers to the friends for verification purposes. Have those three documents notarized and that should be sufficient.
I was self employed most of my life prior to my trucking career. I had to provide tax records and notarized letters. Not every company will accept that as proof but probably 95% will be just fine with it.
For your wife, If she volunteered anywhere, had good relationships with teachers, were involved with scouts, or sports. These are good places/people to get letters from.
I just went through this for myself. I had a gap for a year. I was able to get a very good letter from my daughter’s support teacher, which satisfied Swift HR.
Hi All,
My wife and I are in our early 40s and looking to get into driving. My question is this.
I've been self employed over 10 years and file a schedule C. My wife and I file joint taxes but she hasn't worked in over 10 years...(raising kids, home school etc.) On our taxes I've always listed her as unemployed.
Can anyone give some insight on how this would be viewed by team driving companies?
Thanks
Companies want married teams... They will stick together without bouncing from truck to truck. They don't have to worry about sexual harassment suits, and they will work together better than other teams
I doubt she will have an issue. My FM would be overjoyed lol
