After talking to people I am leaning towards Prime. Any prime drivers I do have a question? My recruiter sent me all the paperwork to sign to have all the background checks done. I was honest with him and told him I got into a little trouble 30 years ago when I was in my very early 20s he said that was so long ago and I haven’t done anything wrong since they weren’t worried about it. They said I was approved for orientation I just have to go get my DOT physical and CDL permit on Monday and pay $100. As I’m changing careers this is very stressful and I don’t want to be without a job since I am preapproved they have already looked at everything and decided I am OK to drive for Prime? Or can I still be sent home the first day of orientation?

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

As long as you completely disclosed everything about your past, and were still invited to orientation, you'll be fine. Nothing to worry about.
