Anne: The mail hauling gig was mainly to cover a XMAS season contract the company was awarded running to the Dayton, Ohio airport. Was supposed to end 12/31 but kept getting extended and finally wrapped up 1/15. Their regular runs are split shifts to the main Dayton Post Office. You come in and run one trip early afternoon then go home and come back to run 1-2 more around 2-3 AM. Not really a schedule I am interested in.
I have agreed to help them out when I can if they need something covered. I have ran 2 trips on separate occasions since the XMAS contract ended. Not sure how much more I will do for them now that I have started the new job.

Glad it's all working well for you, Greg; and that your health, et al is on the UPSWING! You found a 'treater' of a gig, for sure!
If you ever want back to fulltime and your new boss doesn't have it, Don & I have the 'gig' for you, LoL~!!! Especially since you're used to a daycab now, ya know ?!?!? ;)
J/K but..not, haha! His company told him if he could bring a DRIVER on board, he can have Saturdays off again!! OKAY, then!

Returned to the world of DEF trucks and ELDs.
Started a new job this week. Cincinnati to various locations in NE Ohio with backhauls from Massillon, Ohio back to starting location. Haul paper products out and return with 44k of paper rolls. Truck is a 2016 Western Star day cab with a Detroit and a 10 speed.
Last 2 jobs hauling grain during harvest season and running under the 150 mile rule hauling mail from Cincinnati to Dayton, Ohio have allowed me to develop some bad habits, mainly forgetting to log. Yesterday I was half way to Columbus, Ohio when I realized that I had completely forgotten to log in! I was able to get everything edited back into some semblance of reality. I have already made a big post-it note with "LOG ON" to post on the dashboard. We use our phones to log so I don't have a big screen sitting there to remind me.
For now I am just going to work 2-3 days a week, boss is already begging me to do more but I have really gotten used to the semi-retired life. Most likely I will return to full time in the spring.
Feb 3 will mark the 1 year anniversary of my heart attack which for a while looked like it was the end of my driving career. Needless to say it felt pretty good to be out there covering some real miles again.
Day Cab:
A tractor which does not have a sleeper berth attached to it. Normally used for local routes where drivers go home every night.
