While I have little experience, and Im not a flatbedder, My DM specifically made sure that I request my home time in writing both over the Zonar (qualcom) and via text to him. He also said to remind him as I started getting close to it. In addition, barring an emergency, they need at least two weeks notice if possible so that they can get it routed that way. I also let him know if Im flexible on the dates or if they are hard dates.

Guess what Im saying is that perhaps to prevent that type of thing from happening again, communication is the key. I was vague and ambiguous the first time I requested home time and as a result, they just kept running me until I clarified the protocol.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Yeah we would put in for home time as soon as we got back in the truck, from previous 3 days off. So basicly, 3 weeks in advance, which usually worked out...Most of the time, If not, we got the extra $100 each, being late getting home.

We did the 4 n 6 weeks out bit, but after 3 weeks, it's time for a break, from the truck and each other hahaha

By the 3rd week, we might get bit testy n grumpy with each other....

I really don't know what to tell you, I divorced my bad experiences.

Ok, that's funny. One of those "I wish I'd thought of that" comments. On a serious note, we all need to learn from our mistakes and we all make mistakes. If we learn something important when we screw up, then it becomes easier to put it behind us. Several quotes I can recall are: "Experience is a hard teacher. It gives the test first and the lesson afterward" And: "Those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it".

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
