Pay attention to the signs. There are two levels to the bridge. Trucks take the upper level. Rely on the signs. Your GPS may not guide you properly.

Don't You Dare Miss That Sign!

Quick tip about those height signs. They are measured from the top of curb to the bottom of the bridge beams to account for snow pack during the winter. 13’6” fits just fine.

Just for shirts and giggles, I have done some internet research about this bridge. It’s not quite a mile long and the toll for a 5 axle combo vehicle is under $100, not the $300 I was told.

Interestingly, the claim is that it’s the busiest bridge in the world. So there’s a cool piece of info for trivia enthusiasts.

Cheapest way to cross the bridge is by motorcycle. Or walk, lol

Another piece of trivia...when I drove back in 88-93, there was no Pre-Pass, debit cards or credit card machines, so we had to pay cash. The George Washington Bridge and the other bridges between the boroughs were $20 each and we had to carry all that in cash and be aware of those that would try to hold you up and take your cash. I would drive going into the Bronx with our twice a month load out of Idaho and my husband would sit in the right seat with his weapon. So when some guy would jump up on the steps he just lifted it a hair and they would jump off after seeing it.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
