Hi,

Was just wondering how many lady truckers were trained by men and what their experience was. Still cannot imagine being in a truck with a strange guy for a month or more, considering women's different needs. Anyone???

I was told I'd be with a woman trainer. I haven't started class yet so it will be at least 3 weeks before I know for sure.

My husband trained me, so thats a different situation. Most companies, for obvious reasons, try to have women trainers available. But there are never enough. I do know that Redgator trains for WEL, and she is on this board, so I know she will be chiming in on this post. Its hard for women to get into trucking, if the male/female training time is an issue. I also know that there are some great guy trainers out there that can be trusted. The cramped quarters in a truck are hard to deal with, but you basically do what you haveto do to get thru that portion of your training. After many lawsuits, trucking companies have been made to listen when there is an issue, so we, as women aren't left totally without avenues of complaint. But in the long run, if you don't think you would be comfortable with a male trainer, apply only at companies that will guarantee you will have a lady trainer, AND ask how long the wait for your trainer will be. Theres little more you can do. You can also apply at a ton of companies using this link Truck Driving Schools , then when you talk with their recruiters, ask the tough questions about being trained by a woman, and how long it will take to get you into her truck, and out on the road. Then you can do little more than hope the wait isn't to long. I almost forgot !!! WELCOME to TT...we are glad you found us...Feel free to post on any of the forums on this site..and take advantage of all the free stuff, like the High Road Training Program which will put you WAY ahead of anyone else in your training class...and, as its been shown lately, it may help you get more time training in the truck at the school, and be noticed by a trainer that can see you are at the top of your class !! This type of thing will be the best for jump starting your trucking career.....

Best of luck Cynthia. Thanks Starcar. Planning on sitting for my permit test this saturday. And yes, the High Road Training Program has been VERY helpful.

My company doesnt allow male/female training. Keep in mimd that you are in ultra close quaters. Now back as a trainee I sidnt care one way or the other and I know Special K was trained by a man no problems but honestly its more comforting to be with a female. Especially because trucking for females ia unique. Its totally different out here. Safety is a huge issue for us. Also woman think differently. We learn different. You might find a female to be easier to learn from.

Though, there are some catches to female trainers. Mine was in the throes of menopause. Made for some interesting issues. I was either cooking or freezing. She was nice one minute and insane the next. Calm and collected, then lost and angry. I remember one time, I pulled in to a left hand side rest area and she woke up while I was there. As I was pulling out she yanked my brakes and screamed that I was going to kill her by driving on the wrong side of the road. It took her seeing four other trucks leave the same way before she believed me.

On the other hand, my husbands trainer didn't wipe his bum after he pooped. I don't know what would have been worse...

Don't worry, when you are done you will have trainer stories and lots of humor. You will learn all you need from the road and you will also gain some insight on how much patience you can muster. Just remember, it's hard on the trainers too. Mine complained because I was white. My hair sheds when I brush it. She didn't have any because she shaved it all off. It drover her crazy. I tried keeping it pulled back but when I am stressed I tend to shed worse. Lol.

You will make it and have fun while doing it.

I personally don't care if my trainer is male or female as long as they know their job and train me to do the job right. I promiss to keep my hands and eyes to myself, I'd appreciate the same courtesy. : )

Yup...trainers can be great, or a nightmare....its the luck of the draw, male or female...lol. But you have to go into it with a "I will survive" attitude...remember, its not forever, and its a means to an end....As women, we have all taken alot of crap to getto where, and what we want...a little more won't hurt us, we're pro's !!!
